The opportunity

DeepL is a global AI product and research company focused on building secure, intelligent solutions to complex business problems. Over 200,000 business customers and millions of individuals across 228 global markets today trust DeepL's Language AI platform for human-like…

What you'll do

  • Own the Identity Experience End-to-End: You will architect and build complex, user-facing features across our identity stack. You will own business-critical systems from the initial problem definition through to architectural design, deployment, and production reliability. You measure success by user impact, not just pull requests merged

  • Build for "Consumer-Grade" Enterprise: You understand that authentication and authorization systems cannot fail. You build for reliability and maintainability, while delivering a user-friendly experience. You will lead incident response, and continuously raise the bar on code quality and operational health

  • Collaborate to Raise the Bar: You will work closely with teammates across Identity and adjacent teams - other product teams, Product Management and Support. You will lead designs, scoping, shaping, and solving hard product and technical challenges in collaboration with your team and other engineers

  • Drive Technical Pragmatism: Whether using our core stack (C#/.NET Core, Kubernetes, Postgres) or exploring new tools, you choose the technology that solves the customer problem most effectively, ensuring long-term maintainability over short-term trends. You use AI for boilerplate code, test generation, and debugging, allowing you to focus your cognitive energy on high-value architectural decisions and complex problem-solving

  • Extreme Ownership & Operational Excellence: You own your services end-to-end (production operations, incident response, and on-call) and you're motivated by pushing reliability toward four nines. You write comprehensive tests, monitor the systems in production, and you treat each incident as an opportunity to learn

  • A "System Thinker" Mindset: You don't just know syntax; you understand failure modes, system boundaries, and how your code impacts the broader architecture at scale. You can design systems that deliver high availability for our millions of users.

What they're looking for

  • Backend Mastery at Scale (C# / .NET): You have deep expertise designing scalable backend systems and distributed architectures, and you've worked with high-scale distributed systems in production. Strong system design is core to how you work. Roughly 80-90% of the work is backend; working on the frontend (React/Javascript) is a welcome plus, not a requirement
  • Enterprise Domain Curiosity: You are interested in the hard problems of B2B SaaS Identity - authentication (SSO/OIDC), authorization, and requirements such as security and auditing. You understand that these aren't "boring details"; they are the pillars of trust for enterprise clients
  • AI-Native Velocity: You leverage AI-powered tools (like GitHub Copilot or Claude) to accelerate your velocity and eliminate repetitive toil. You use AI for boilerplate code, test generation, and debugging, allowing you to focus your cognitive energy on high-value architectural decisions and complex problem-solving
  • Diverse and internationally distributed team: joining our team means becoming part of a large, global community with people of more than 90 nationalities. We're more than just colleagues; we're a group of professionals with a shared mission to connect diverse cultures. Our global presence is growing–we've doubled in size nearly every year, with our employees based in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, the US, and Japan, and we continue to expand our network.
