The opportunity

Databricks is seeking an experienced, highly strategic leader to serve as Director of Order to Revenue Compliance. As Databricks continues to scale, protecting our usage-based revenue engine requires dedicated fiduciary oversight at the intersection of product metering, billing systems, and financial accounting.

What you'll do

  • Strategic Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and scale a high-performing team consisting of two functional leads covering Partnerships / Royalty, Money/Engineering Compliance, and Issue Resolution. Actively uphold our culture principles and leadership essentials in daily execution.

  • Usage & Revenue Fiduciary Oversight: Serve as the primary business and compliance oversight body responsible for ensuring all usage-related, financially impacting processes are accurate, complete, SOX-compliant, and validated prior to customer billing and revenue conversion.

  • Partner Agreement & Royalty Governance: Assume complete ownership of outbound/inbound royalty reporting, executions, and complex reconciliations (e.g., Azure/Microsoft, AWS, GCP, SAP). Eliminate manual operational risks, ingestion lag, timing mismatches, and contract-period attribution issues.

  • Cross-Functional System Controls & "Two-in-the-Box" Execution: Partner closely with Engineering (Money Team) and Finance Data Systems (FDS) prior to product launches to validate metering, pricing models, SKU additions, and billing logic against business intent.

  • Audit Ownership & Technical Accounting: Act as the primary audit lead for external audit, internal audit, and executive stakeholders regarding platform consumption calculations and monetization structures.

  • Remediation & Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Oversee the categorization and resolution of usage issues (Types 1–3), standardize refund SLAs/credits, and drive mandatory cross-functional RCAs with Engineering to prevent systemic metering bugs.

What they're looking for

  • Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related technical field; CPA license preferred.
  • Experience : 12+ years of relevant experience, including extensive experience: in revenue accounting, IT audit, and SOX control frameworks.
  • Domain Expertise: Familiarity with ASC 606, specifically applied to consumption-based/usage-based revenue models, SaaS, and complex partner royalty agreements.
  • Leadership & Cross-Functional Influence: Proven track record of managing managers or functional leads while directly collaborating with executive leadership across Engineering, Sales Operations, FP&A, and external auditors.
